Operator / Relief Operator

Overview of position

The operator / relief operator is next in order of responsibility to the tool pusher. He/she is responsible for controlling the Workover Rig and derrick that hauls pipe in and out of the bored well. The operator and the toolpusher are responsible for driving the rig from one location to the next, as well as obtaining all required permits before travel. A CDL license is required for these functions. When laying pipe the operator instructs the derrick hand and floor crew where to place the pipe for easy access by the crane or by hand-loading methods. During a well breakdown or repair the operator directs the crew in storage of extracted pipelines. The operator / relief operator runs the crew while safely operating well servicing rig components. This is an extremely safety sensitive position. The operator and relief operator will be always training crew members on job duties and how to perform them safely.
