Tubing Test Operator

Overview of position

Technicians hydrostatically test tubing going in or coming out of the hole ensuring all connections are good, looking for holes, high-pressure splits, bad collars, pinholes, crimped joints, and any other weak places in the tubing. Technicians maintain their equipment and work-over tools after each job. This is a safety sensitive position

Reports To

Field Manager, Client Company Representative

  • Drive equipment to and from location
  • Complete paperwork, JSA, Certification storage, CDL requirements ect.
  • Rig up which includes hanging shiv properly at the top of the rig and wheel chock your truck
  • Feeding of winch line
  • Testing the seating nipple and first joint, ground test if needed
  • Make sure scene is clear
  • Pressure up testing tubes
  • Read gauges to determine pipe quality
  • Comply with applicable specifications and standards
  • Discard and/or reject materials not meeting specifications
  • Identify and properly mark materials with details such as grade or acceptance – rejection status
  • Make up test bars including layout
  • Make sure each bar is in place in the correct order
  • Run winch to pick up test bars and place inside tubing, then proceed to test
  • Rig down job
  • Maintain clean equipment and vehicle at all times
  • Perform and log maintenance properly on vehicle
  • May be requested to work outside of normal work schedule to meet customer needs
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Class B CDL with appropriate endorsements where required
  • Must be physically able to climb to top of rig and work for extended periods of time
  • Must be able to interact with others and communicate effectively
  • Must be able to read and understand safety regulations
  • Must pass drug and alcohol screening as well as background check
  • 2 years previous well-head tubing experience
  • Must be able to work in a team environment
  • Must be physically able to perform under all types of weather and physical conditions
  • Must be able to lift and position vehicle equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to sit and/or stand for long periods of time while working on location rigging up, and working on down-hole tools
